BUDLEIGH CABINET

Made for the hall of an Arts & Crafts house in Budleigh Salterton. I was very happy with this piece: a good marriage of verticals and horizontals; the gentle curve of the bottom rail spanning the flared sides, and bog oak handles which I designed especially for it.  The panels are made from some thickish knotty boards which, frankly, looked a bit of a mess when I brought them back to the workshop. Sliced down the middle and opened out, the two halves are mirror images which can then be arranged in various ways to create a pleasing symmetry – a bit like playing with a kaleidoscope.
