CABINET ON STAND – OAK AND PIPPY OAK

Another piece for a house on the edge of Dartmoor which contains a number of pieces I’ve enjoyed working on. The cabinet on a stand is a classic Arts & Crafts piece, well suited to this house, where it sits in the dining room. Oak is of course the timber of choice for Arts & Crafts furniture, here with some pippy oak to jazz it up. The slender door panels with their concave mouldings echo panelling elsewhere in the room. The jointing of the curved stretchers into the side rails has a bit of Arts & Crafts display – urging you to get down on hands and knees to examine them.

The handles, in rosewood, are a further evolution of a design that I’ve developed through several iterations over the years: these are the finest and slimmest so far – lovely to hold.
