CHERRY CABINET

After my work bench, this was the first thing I made.  Following initial timber preparation, there was a pause for a month while I learnt how to cut dovetails. The design owes something to a small chest of drawers made by Ernest Gimson, one of the leaders of the English Cotswold School in the early 20th century. I learnt a huge amount from making it, under the guidance of Chris Faulkner. I remember being particularly pleased with the dovetailed plinth, made with the dovetail pins standing proud – a classic Arts & Crafts feature.
